Weekly Update: September 17, 2025

Word from the Pastor:

Word from our pastor:

I pray this Newsletter finds you well.  Last week we covered a lot of material in our weekly story, so in conjunction with the sermon, I have posted a bridge talk that helps us slow down and pick up on a few of the nuances within the text.  You can find both the sermon and the latest bridge talk HERE.

This week, we are heading to Babel.  See the movement from individuals, families, cultures, and now Babel.  To prep you for this week's story, here are some texts I want to invite you to read: Genesis 9-11, Deuteronomy 32:1-10, Psalm 2, Isaiah 55:8-9, and Acts 2:1-12. Allow me a couple of descriptions of these passages:

In the Genesis text, there's some genealogy work - if you want to know more about that check out this week's bridge talk.

If you are going to take a stab at the genealogy work in Genesis 9-10, imagine the Deuteronomy 32 text as a "heavenly" perspective on that.

Isaiah 55:8–9 reminds us that what seems right or successful by human standards—even widely approved—is not necessarily God’s way. God’s perspective always considers the marginalized, judging right and wrong by what honors those often overlooked. Written to Israelites in Babylonian exile, this text speaks to the limits of human understanding, the temptation to rely on “proven methods” (which is not always wrong), and the need to trust God’s higher wisdom. It calls for humility, faith, and aligning our ways with God’s, even when we cannot fully grasp His purposes.

Finally, and if you have time, though we probably won't cover it in the story, look at what's going on in the Acts text, and see if you can see how this is the great reversal of Babel when things are done right and God's way is leading.

I'll see you Sunday!
