Weekly Update: June 4, 2025
Word from the Pastor:
The World Needs Jesus—But Which One? I woke up Monday morning to another tragic headline—an anti-semetic attack with a homemade flamethrower. My first thought: What is wrong with people? My second: I can already hear some of my evangelical friends saying, “This world needs Jesus.”
And as a pastor, of course, I agree. But with a qualifying question: Which Jesus do we mean?
After years studying the Gospels, I’m convinced—if someone unfamiliar with Christianity read about Jesus in Scripture, then walked into many modern churches and heard, “This is what he produced,” they might be confused. The disconnect is real.
Today, Jesus is often reshaped to fit a narrative.
Some progressive theology lifts up his compassion and concern for justice, but downplays his moral teachings and rootedness in history. Strip away those foundations, and even his love starts to float loose from its meaning.
On the other hand, some conservative theology highlights his moral authority, but often forgets his poverty, his humanity, and his radical embrace of the marginalized at the expense of his own reputation. In that version, holiness can start to feel like a hammer instead of a healing. In both cases, we risk turning Jesus into a mascot—someone who fits our preferences but doesn’t challenge us.
So yes—the world needs Jesus. But not a version we’ve refashioned to suit our preferences.
We need the Jesus of the Gospels.
The one who unsettles both Left and Right.
The one whose grace offends our ideas of who’s worthy, whose holiness still confronts before it comforts, and whose love reaches those the church has cast out under the banner of righteousness.
The one who stepped down from the throne to kneel in the dirt.
Not a mascot. Not a slogan.
A Savior.

Volunteers Needed
Our church needs your support! If God is calling you and you are interested in a volunteer opportunity, please complete this form or contact one of the trustees or pastor. Thank you! https://forms.gle/K2AFU9b9fbeoiZyM7
The Board has a working list of volunteer needs relative to the church service and maintenance items at the church. Be on the lookout for this list and be in prayer about how you can help.
If you have a gift of organizing and/or managing, please consider the Hospitality Coordinator volunteer position. This is an organizational role responsible for recruiting and assigning volunteers for the Sunday Social Hour, 5th Sunday luncheon, holiday meals and general business meeting snacks, etc. Duties of the volunteers that you recruit would include set-up, clean-up, and keeping the kitchen stocked with supplies (coffee, sugar, creamer, paper goods, condiments, juice).
Social Hour: Sundays at 10:00 am
Our social hour is a great way to get to know each other over breakfast tacos! We meet in the Education Building at 10:00 a.m. before the 11:00 a.m. church service.
Dripping Springs Helping Hands Pantry
The 2nd Sunday of each month is designated for pantry donations. Please place your nonparishable food items in the blue barrel in the Education Building.
